In 2021, Artlist announced the acquisition of FXhome, a Norwich-based software company that specializes in software and plugins for video and image editing, to become its software division. Artlist Original produces original songs for licensing on the Artlist platforms. In May 2021, Artlist joined the independent music publisher's agency IMPEL. After the Motion Array acquisition, Artlist reportedly had a library of over 800,000 digital assets. In December 2020 the company acquired the Atlanta-based company Motion Array for $65M. Įlephant Partners made an initial investment in 2018 before Artlist raised $48M led by the investment company KKR in February 2020. The company expanded its catalog with the launch of the Artgrid stock footage platform in 2019 and a sound effects subscription service.

HistoryĪrtlist was founded in Israel in 2016 by Ira Belsky, Itzik Elbaz, Eyal Raz and Assaf Ayalon as a royalty-free music site called Artlist.io that originally targeted independent filmmakers looking to license music cheaply. That made an incredible impact on how quickly and effectively, users can discover specific assets.Artlist is an Israel-based creative technology company that specializes in royalty-free digital content, and is the owner of several video and image editing platforms. We ended up with the ability to search for something like: “Summer Music in Royalty-Free Music, with 80 beats per minute, elements of guitar and drums with hints of Hip-Hop and Jazz, and a festive theme.”

We started with just the ability to type in a keyword and filter by a handful of categories. Tags are rich with traits specific to the category.Īdding them all up had an enormous impact on filtering capabilities. We used tags to narrow down the products by technical features like Software support, Genre, Theme, Instruments, and more.

Things like “Sunny Day”, “Summer Music”, or similar helped users get to the particular type of products.

We used keywords to filter specific attributes users are looking for. It was evident to users what products they were looking at, whereas before, videos got confused with images or video effects and vice-versa. That improved not only the search speed but also the clarity. Categories included Video Templates & Presets, Stock Video, Stock Images, Royalty-Free Music, and Sound Effects. We used categories to narrow the search from platform-wide to category-specific instantly. Three key components were Categories, Keywords, and Tags. To make searching and filtering as comfortable as possible, we implemented best-in-class solutions. We implemented extensive, segmented navigation that showcased The Marketplace as one whole and gave more space to other products. To increase product visibility and discovery, we rehauled the main navigation. This change was supposed to improve the way users find and preview music files but ended up being just a concept for the future redesign. We created a separate view for music and sounds cards and gave them a more natural form. That resulted in an increased number of asset downloads and a faster time to download. That allowed users to preview the asset and download them instantly without opening a product page. We simplified the design and implemented playable preview cards with download buttons. We focused more on the preview cards and product discovery. We added an all present search bar in the main menu and new filtering and sorting options for faster browsing for the time being. Redesigning and implementing these systems would take a lot of time and possibly cause long downtimes for users, so we decided to hold that until the complete overhaul. We decided to improve critical parts of the experience on the search and filtering systems.
